Cricova

Located 11 km from Chisinau, Cricova winery is one of the biggest underground wineries in Europe, having a collection of over 1.3 million bottles of wine. It was founded in 1952 when the limestone mines of the town Cricova were turned into a 60 km long (about 37 miles) labyrinth of wine cellars.

The tunnels form a real underground city that lies 50-80 meters beneath the town of Cricova, and even Chisinau. The “city” has real streets named after the wine kept there, like Sauvignon, Cabernet, or Feteasca.

The tunnel is large enough that you can actually drive through it. You can also take a tour and taste the wine of Cricova, as well as enjoy a great traditional Moldovan meal in the Cricova underground wine city.
